I don't know that I would be able to tell the difference between standard sugar and this in a cup of tea, but if you enjoy the ritual of drinking tea as much as the taste, this just makes for a better experience. Even better when entertaining guests. You could plop a bowl of dixie sugar for them to shove into like heathens, or, you could provide lovely amber colored sugary gemstones.
Since Teavana went out of business (Boo Starbucks!), this is one of my two go-to sweeteners for tea. I'm Southern, so tea ain't fit to drink without sugar. This adds a nice sweetness without overpowering the flavor of the tea.
